Playing the games
How does my child play?
Pick a game from the home screen. Pip the chameleon says what to do, for example "Tap red" or "Pop the green balloons". A right answer earns a star. Five stars finish a round with confetti and a new sticker, and then the game carries on a little harder.
What happens after a wrong answer?
Nothing bad. The thing they tapped wobbles and Pip says which colour it was. After two tries the right answer glows gently. No game ever ends because of a mistake.
My child cannot read. Is that a problem?
No. Every question is spoken, and colour words are shown in their own colour. Tap Pip or his speech bubble to hear the question again.
Which games are there?
Free: Tap the Colour, Balloon Pop, Sort It and Hungry Pip. With the unlock: Match It, Mix It, Pattern Train, Find Pip, Paint It and Rainbow Music.
What are the Easy, Medium and Hard levels in Tap the Colour?
They are the original timed game for older children: nine colours and a countdown of 20, 15 or 10 seconds. A right tap adds time, a wrong tap takes one second away. "Play" is the gentle version with no timer.
What is the sticker book?
Every finished round wins one of forty stickers. Open the book from the top left of the home screen; tap a sticker to make it bounce.
What age is it for?
It is designed for ages two to five. The games begin with three choices and six colours and build up to nine colours, patterns and colour mixing.
Sound and settings
Where are the settings?
Tap the cog at the top right of the home screen and answer the sum. That opens the grown-ups area, where you can switch sound effects and spoken words on or off, and reset stars, stickers and scores.
There is no sound or no voice
Check the device volume, and on iPhone and iPad the silent switch: Colour Wise respects it. Then check that Sound effects and Spoken words are on in the grown-ups area. On Android, the voice uses the text-to-speech engine in the device settings (usually "Speech Services by Google"); make sure one is installed and has an English voice.
The voice sounds different on another device
The game uses the voice built into each phone or tablet, so it varies between devices. You can choose a different voice in the device's own accessibility or text-to-speech settings.
Why is there a sum before the settings?
It is a parental gate. Settings and the purchase are for adults, so they sit behind a question a young child cannot answer.
The unlock, restoring and refunds
What does Colour Wise cost?
It is free to download with four games free to keep. One purchase of US$1.49 (or the local equivalent) unlocks six more games. You pay once; there is no subscription and there are no ads.
How do I buy the extra games?
Tap any game with a padlock, or the cog on the home screen, answer the sum, then tap "Unlock all games". The purchase is made with your Apple or Google account.
I bought it but the games are locked
Open the grown-ups area, tap "Unlock more games" and then "Restore purchase". Make sure the device is online and signed in to the same Apple or Google account that made the purchase.
The purchase says it is waiting for approval
Your family uses Ask to Buy or purchase approvals. The games unlock by themselves as soon as the organiser approves the request.
Can I use it on my other devices?
Yes. Install Colour Wise on another device signed in to the same store account and use "Restore purchase". A purchase on the App Store does not carry over to Google Play, or the other way round.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple and Google, so refunds go through them. On iPhone and iPad use reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android use the Google Play order history at play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory.
Privacy and data
Does Colour Wise collect anything?
No. There are no accounts, no ads, no tracking and no analytics. Stars, stickers and settings are saved only on the device. See the privacy policy.
How do I reset everything?
Open the grown-ups area and tap "Reset stickers and scores" twice. Your purchase is not affected. Uninstalling the app also clears everything.
Does it need the internet?
Not to play. The internet is only used by the App Store or Google Play when you buy or restore the unlock.
